Stafford CC lost out to in form Porthill Park seconds on Saturday. Stafford were asked to bat a made decent total of 199 on a wicket that had a few surprises early on. Guy Seaton (41), Ash Lunn (33), and Luke Morien (45) were the main contributors as spin bowler Nick Hubble picked up 4 wickets. Stafford looked to be in a good position with Morien (3-48) helping reduce the home side to 116-5 before Tom Mason (50 not out) and Matthew Cope (30) struck up a partnership to see Porthill Park wrap up a four wicket win. Skipper Rob James is looking forward to a showdown Leycett on Saturday. Leycett are in the relegation zone with Stafford one place above them in the table although Stafford hold a healthy 54 point lead. “It’s a big game for us and we can put ourselves well out of sight with a win. We expect Leycett to give everything though so we’re looking forward to good challenge.” The big game begins at Riverway at 12:30 with free admission.
Stafford CC seconds lost out to Weston CC seconds at home on Saturday. Weston batted first and Haaris Mahmood (65) and Chris Barrett (58) led Weston to 207-7 off their 45 overs, with Jack Scerri (4-64) the pick of the bowlers. Karl Mason (38) and Terry Jones (32) made solid contributions but Stafford couldn’t get the measure of the Weston attack and were dismissed for 141 with James Littlewood (4-21) and man of the match Barrett (4-26) too hot to handle.
