Stafford CC and Leycett CC were left bemoaning the weather after their division 2 encounter was rain affected. Leycett had amassed 241-5 declared with ex-Derbyshire star Dan Redfearn (94) and David Speakman (111) enjoying the fine batting conditions as Ethan Sheriff (2-38) and Tinofara Mafusire (2-48) struck for the home side. After an early tea due to rain, Stafford were only out in the middle for a short while before another prolonged rain break left Stafford with just 20 overs to bat. Stafford closed on 40-1 in a game technically classed as abandoned and will be pleased to have maintained a 51 point lead over their league rivals. Stafford are at home again next Saturday for a 12:30 start with Silverdale making the trip to Riverway.
A weakened 2nd XI lost out heavily on their travels to Cheshire to face Elworth. Stafford batted first after winning the toss but struggled to 111 all out. Chris Bell top scored in the late order with a quick fire 21 to make it respectable. The Elworth openers then eased their way to a 10 wicket win in the reply.
In division 7 the thirds had a vital win away to Stone 4ths at Swynnerton. Batting first Iain Atherton 27 and Dan Haynes 41 got them off to a solid start. Mike Goodman with a 100 ball 73 not out and Tony Milner’s 41 not out steered them then to 197-4 in 45 overs. In the second innings Stafford continued to dominate eventually bowling the home side out for 65 to win by 132 runs. Sean Connolly with 4-20 was the pick of the attack before amazingly Milner with 3-12 completed the job.
